Day #14: Take and Taken

Usually when writing, we try to avoid repeating the same word unless we are using its repetition for a specific intent.

Today's prompt invites us to use words over and over again!

Take / Taken / Took

In a two-stanza poem, consider what you TAKE (from friends, parents, school, the world) alongside what has been TAKEN from you (by friends, parents, school, the world).

While I began with this prompt, as I wrote, my poem morphed into a rhyming ditty about the precious time I TAKE with my morning coffee!

I look forward to seeing where this take/taken/took prompt TAKES you!

Coffee

I take the filter off the shelf
It takes five minutes brewing
I take a measure of myself
While coffee grounds are stewing.

I’ve taken time while waking up
I’ve taken morning lathers
I’ve taken stock then filled my cup
Now take on all that matters.

Thanks to Ethical ELA for many of the prompts I'm adapting for my students this month.

  1. Animals

I wake up early tired I'm feeling
To take care of the animals I'm feeding
It takes 5 minutes to get up and ready
Takes 10 minutes to feed everybody

I've taken time to feed my goats
I've taken effort to feed my rabbits
I've taken breakfast after all the latters
Time for me to take on more important matters

    2. I get done at 5:30
I take my time getting home
I take my time get out
      Into the home i know

      I've taken the setting sun
      I've taken the gas money
      I've taken warm air
Now I have to take on the responsibility

  2. I take my time packing up
I take a long time to leave
I take with me everything I own
    Including the memories made here.

    I've taken friends here
    I've taken naps here
I've taken every moment I can with this place
    Now it's time to go.

  4. I take the blanket at the foot of the bed
I take the mug from upstairs
I take the extra pillow for my head
The feeling of the cool air

I’ve taken the time to stare at the wall
I’ve taken my will to sleep
I’ve taken away the screaming call
This silence is now mine to keep
